One week out!

Hello!

Toni and Greg here from Sirena! Happy Wednesday! We've been at sea for one week crossing the Pacific Ocean! We left Hanalei Bay, Kauai, and are headed back to the mainland aboard Sirena. She is a lovely Noreseman 447 and is an excellent boat to sail in the ocean double handed. Yep, just Greg and I aboard. A short summary below of our journey thus far:

Departed Hanalei Bay July 21, 2021.
Current Position - N35*25 W157*54
Heading - Mostly due north, close to same Longitude as when we left Kauai.
Route - North till catch prevailing NW winds, turn right and try and stay out of the high, then head south to California. Sailing as much as possible!
Wind - Everything from no wind up to 30+knots
Distance covered - 877nm. 1834nm to destination (of course it will be more cause that's straight line)
Fishing - We have fished for four days and have caught 6 fish!
Weather - Sunshine to rain and everything in between
Night sailing - full moon has been spectacular
Meals - Been eating great! Greg has done most of the cooking so far. Fresh fish tacos have been the best meal yet.

Healing for a week now and all that is required for sailing across the ocean is starting to get me into shape! Last night and today has been a nice sail. Winds around 10-12 knots. SOG averaging 6 knots. Sailing to AWA 70. Mostly sunny skies with a few puffy white clouds. No squalls in site! (knock on wood) Been a pretty chill day. Had croissants with ham and melted cheese inside for breakfast. Lots of coffee. Planning on rice, fish, and corn tonight for dinner. Have spent some time reading, napping, and writing, all while listening to easy going music. Need to get a little work done, but it's just an absolutely beautiful day outside with nobody out here except for us. Enjoying the day is much preferable. Our weather should hold for the next couple days we hope!! Need to get up to those winds so we can start heading east. Otherwise we are currently on track for Alaska! Little too cold for my liking that far north. It has started to cool off during the night here. Sweater and long pants, and tonight will probably require socks. Daytime is still pleasant, perhaps a light sweater needed. Think it's time for a nap!!

Cheers,

Toni & Greg
