The Pacific Ocean
After 2 enjoyable weeks in Hanalei Bay, we set sail and to sea with a dolphin escort, it was so cool! The first 3 days we spent beating into 25-30kts+ My fellow sailors, you understand. To my family and friends, let's just say it's not the most pleasant sail. Despite the weather, we ate great! Greg did all the cooking. Breakfast burritos, eggs and potatoes, stir fry, and coconut curry were just a few or the items on the menu. Thank goodness I don't get seasick!!
On day 4 the winds dropped to 15-20kts giving us a day of reprieve. The next day the winds dropped even more, and we were able to spend the weekend drying out the boat. We also started fishing! So far we've caught 5 Mahi-mahi, lost one, and have lost no lures! Our night sailing were absolutely spectacular under the full moon over the weekend. The moon rose before the sun set. Beautiful sunsets each day. Then Sunday night the winds started to die down even more. At 1am after crawling forward at a SOG of 1.5k, we gave up and rolled up the gyb and turned on the motor! Monday morning brought us a glass sea with a spectacular sunrise. The motor running creates hot water bringing us hot showers!!! Felt so good. Washed my hair. The simple things in life. The wind returned in the afternoon, allowing us to off the motor after 16 hours, and get back to sailing! And fish tacos! Greg made amazing fresh fish tacos with all the fixings for dinner. They were so good. My favorite meal so far :)
And that brings us to today. Yesterday winds were light, a little fluky, and we ended up motoring for an hour in the morning to get up north to catch some wind. We have had a pleasant sail since.
Hugs,
Toni and Greg
