More trash in the ocean floating by

Greetings from Sirena!

It's July 31st, can you believe it??!! August is right around the corner. And today is the start of our 11th day at sea with 1300nm sailed so far! We have had a lovely few days of sailing out here in the Pacific. Thursday and Friday we had steady winds of 10, moving along at 6 knots. We also had no squalls (mini localized storms), which was great. Lots of sunshine as well. Then last night the squalls returned! They are quite large, bringing with them pretty heavy downpours, but luckily most of them missed us. Thankfully today we have had the nice warm sunshine peeking out when it wasn't raining on us! Also today the wind picked up just a tad, and we have had to come up a little more to be able arc more to the right, finally being able start to work our way east! Another degree or two in latitude, and we'll turn and head towards California!!

As we have been sailing on the edge of the high, we are starting to see more trash floating by. :( The wind blows it out and the current carries it over. Buoys attached with rope training behind them are the most noticeable, but there has been other trash too. Pieces of styrofoam, bottle caps, a purple floaty toy, little pieces of random plastic, a Yoga mat, and other unidentified objects. Occasionally we go investigate, but so far the pieces we see and are able to pull up are too large to bring on board and store until we get to land. So please, always encourage others to not throw away plastic into the sea!

This week we have continued to eat well; fresh fish, corn, salads with fresh veggies, rice, stir-fry, french toast, hot coffee, orange juice, oranges, avocados, and barbecued steak! Who says you can't BBQ at sea? Just turn the boat the right way under light winds and barbecue away! Tonight will be pasta with home made red sauce with sausage and a variety of veggies thrown in, and salad. Yum!

Another beautiful sunset tonight. We have been really lucky with the weather this past week. Hopefully it will continue on as we sail towards California! Have a good night everyone.

Hugs,

Toni and Greg
