Delivery of Santa Cruz 70 from Honolulu to Marina Del Ray.
I was lucky enough to be on a delivery crew of Grand Illusion, bringing her home after the 2019 Transpac. We had a fun crew of 5, lots of laughs, and had a great time overall. The delivery took 11 days. Captain Patrick has been onboard Grand Illusion as her navigator for years. He was the skipper bringing her home this trip. Trip started out with typical return Hawaii weather, beating for the first few days. Then it calmed down and we had our fair share of hot weather coming back! The high was in an unusual spot, and we had three days of hot and humid conditions. Being humid out in the middle of the Pacific was a new one for me. It did give us the opportunity for some great fishing. Caught some lovely tuna, even had a double hookup one evening! During our time in the high we ran across a turtle caught in a fisherman's net! We were able to rescue the turtle and set it free. Click here for the video. We turned south, the wind picked up, and we flew the kite for a few days. We made landfall just off Point Conception, welcomed with cold and dreary weather. By the time we rolled into Marina Del Ray, the weather had warmed up and we were all back in shorts when arriving that evening. Fast ride and fun times!
