Water Wrangling: Our Hilarious H2O Adventure

podcast here

Picture this: two cruisers, a dolly, and three water jugs—sounds like the setup for a maritime comedy, right? Our water-fetching mission in Bahía de Los Ángeles is anything but a ho-hum chore. With a brilliant little cart—part dolly, part water-carrying marvel—we’ve turned a simple task into a comedic escapade, one that has solidified our status as hilarious water wranglers.

Every time we embark on our water-fetching mission, we’re greeted by the challenge of juggling three hefty water jugs. It’s not just a task; it has turned into an exhilarating game of strategy. As I load the cart with the first jug, I can feel the sweat beginning to bead on my forehead. The heat is more intense than usual, but as seasoned cruisers, we know how to hydrate—after all, we’re not just fetching water; we’re collecting liquid gold for our floating home. The dolly rolls behind me like a trusty steed, and I can’t help but chuckle at my own determination.

Rolling through town, we must navigate a series of obstacles that could rival an obstacle course. We maneuver through narrow streets, dodge potholes, and graciously wave to locals who eye our water-laden contraption with a mix of curiosity and amusement. It’s like a slow-motion parade of hydration, with me pushing our water-laden chariot and doing my best to avoid appearing like a sweaty, determined pack mule. The way I’m puffing and straining, I’m certain the local dogs must think we’re engaging in some kind of bizarre water-moving performance art. I half-expect an applause or at least a few tail wags of encouragement.

Three trips later, we've conquered the water run! Each journey has become more hilarious than the last as we try different techniques for making it smoother. The cart handles the weight like a champ, but the same can’t be said for our endurance in the blistering sun. By the end of the third trip, there's a collective sigh of relief mixed with laughter as we drop the last jug. Let’s just say we manage the heat like... well, let’s just say we’re doing our best. I might look like a sweaty mess, but inside, I’m feeling like a superhero—Hydration Hero to the rescue!

Without a water maker, we’ve become professional water transporters—one wobbly dolly trip at a time. Fairly soon, she and I swap stories from other cruisers about their own water transport escapades, each more outrageous and laugh-inducing than the last. We’ve laughed about the time we tried carrying an extra jug. One misstep turned it into a scene straight out of an unexpected slapstick comedy, where I was nearly sent sprawling as the jug rolled away!

It’s not glamorous. After all, who knew fetching water could be so comedic? But it’s our routine now, and the joy we get out of it keeps the morale high. We've learned to embrace the absurdity of it all—the laughter at our own expense, the camaraderie that develops as fellow cruisers recognize the ridiculousness of the daily grind, and most importantly, the satisfaction of completing our mission.

Each trip turns into an adventure, and while we may not return with the elegant poise of swans gliding across the water, we do return with all the water we set out for—albeit accompanied by a few giggles and snorts of laughter. In the end, it’s the memories we create while handling the challenges of cruising that make this lifestyle so rewarding. Sure, we could have an easier way to manage our water supply, but where's the fun in that?

From dolly chaos to bucket-toting heroes, we navigate our life aboard with a playful spirit. It's more than just fetching water; it’s about finding joy in the small tasks and making even the mundane moments feel like an adventure. And that, dear friends, is cruising life for you—it's not always easy, but it’s always worth it.
